A yoga tip from Amy: get those feet raised for a sleep-filled night

The Watermill at Posara for painting, knitting, creative writing, Italian language and yoga holidays/vacations/retreats, Tuscany, Italy.Amy Rogg, one of our enthusiastic new yoga teachers from California sends us this simple but effective yoga tip, which will help you get a good night’s sleep. We are looking forward to welcoming Amy and her yoga partner Joanne Brohmer for an inspiring retreat at the end of August. More details below.

Meanwhile, time to get those feet raided high. Amy writes: “One of the most restorative poses of all time is Viparita Karani, otherwise known as ‘legs up the wall.’ Extend your feet up a wall, perhaps putting a blanket under your back for extra comfort. Grab an eye pillow, turn on your favorite soothing music, and breathe deeply.

“This pose is beneficial for calming anxious/chaotic energy in the body and is wonderful to do right before bed. By allowing gravity to work in the opposite direction, blood flows towards the upper body allowing for better circulation and lymph drainage. When there is more blood flow in our lower energy centers–reproductive and digestive–the body’s relaxation response is activated. Say goodbye to headaches and insomnia too!”

We are delighted to welcome  Amy and Joanne, two amazing young American yoga teachers to The Watermill. With their students using words like joy’ and magical’ about them, Amy and Joanne will help you to awaken and restore your true passion and self-worth. We are sure this is going to be one of our most inspiring retreats –a sun-filled, fun-filled week where we’ll nurture your mind, body and spirit.

Amy and Joanne’s week will run from Saturday 25 August to Saturday 1 September 2018. The theme of the retreat will be Connection’ – to yourself, to others and to nature.
