This is your last chance to register for Rebecca de Mendonca’s exciting interactive online pastel session tomorrow. We are delighted to say that registrations have been flowing in and we are already expecting a hundred or so people to take part. There’s still room for you though, so if you’d like to enjoy a couple of hours escaping from it all, in the company of this versatile and talented pastellist, now is the time to put your name down. Details of how to register below. (Rebecca’s session is free, but if you would like to make a donation recognising all the hard work that Rebecca and Lois Breckon put into these sessions, it would be gratefully received!)

This time the subject is street scenes and architecture, in pen and ink and various pastel media. Rebecca says: “Join us to experiment in ways to capture the atmosphere of street scenes and the character of historic buildings. I will demonstrate how you can vary your materials and simplify the subject matter to make your life easier.”

Rebecca says that architecture can sometimes seem a daunting subject for pastellists, but she says: “There are ways to use the softness of pastels to create light and atmosphere, but also to get detailed structure with pens and Conte crayons.” As well as demonstrating an atmospheric street scene, Rebecca will show, and explain, example of sketching buildings and other media. Combinations will include: ink with pastel pencil, ink with soft pastel, ink and charcoal with water, pastel pencil and Conte crayon and pastel.

The online session, which will be hosted by Lois Breckon, will be full of tips and techniques to inspire you and will last about 45 minutes. You will have an opportunity to ask questions during the demonstration, and you will receive a materials list and a video of the session, to enable you to have a go yourself in your own time. The session is suitable for both beginners and more experienced students. It doesn’t matter whether you have used pastels before or not.

Rebecca’s free online session ‘Street Scenes and Architecture’ will be online at 2:30pm English time on Thursday 19th November. You will need to register to see Rebecca’s demonstration and to receive the reference picture, a materials list and, afterwards, a video of the session. Please register by using the Watermill Contact Form, which you can find by clicking here. Select: Rebecca de Mendonca. 19 Nov.
