A stunning bee and a magnificent kettle, from Mike Willdridge

Mike BeeOur friend and watermill painting tutor Mike Willdridge seems to me to be going from strength to strength as far as his art is concerned. He’s just sent me these two marvellous acrylic paintings and I think they are both wonderful.

Mike says: Both are part of a long running series based on ‘damaged’ objects. I’ve already sent some others to you, such as ‘broken clock’.”  [You can see Mike with the clock below.]

“These are both acrylic paintings and are painted quite large. The Bumble Bee (20in by 20in) is drawn from a dead bee in my studio and the kettle (24in by 24in)  was painted after I’d accidentally burnt it badly by leaving it too long on the Aga.”

Mike doesn’t record his wife Sue’s reaction to the burnt-out kettle, but the artistic result is stunning.

As well as a great artist, Mike is also an enthusiastic and sympathetic teacher. He will be teaching in watercolour and also oils, pastels and acrylics, with a special emphasis on drawing and sketching on location. He is taking two courses this year, from Saturday 21 June to Saturday 28 June and from Saturday 28 June to Saturday 5 July. And if you would like to enquire about current availability or reserve a place on one of Mike’s 2014 painting course, please click here.  There are only a couple of places left on each of them.

Here’s Mike with that broken clock and his enormous picture of its works.
